August 2107 Event Recap: ‘The Yellow Brick Road to Funding’ with Katrina Mathers

First of all, a big thank you to our guest speaker, Katrina Mathers. Not only did she dedicate her time and energy to share with us her secrets, she did it all on a Sunday morning!

Learning about funding while having food would probably be the only thing that will get me out of bed on a Sunday morning and clearly, I wasn’t the only one. We had members attending from all sorts of industries; TV, film, festival and even literature. It was a great opportunity to network and get to know them over coffee and food.

Katrina’s knowledge of funding was fascinating and insightful. It’s not surprising hearing that her short films have won over 30 awards including an AACTA (The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Award), and have screened at hundreds of film festivals. Plus two of her recent animations were Academy® Accredited, Nullarbor and The Gallant Captain  (co-directed with renowned children’s author Graeme Base). Katrina has also written, produced and directed for organisations such as ABCTV, Granada Media, MCM Entertainment, ActIII Animation, 9MMCommercials and Network10.

I’m happy to say that we had a successful first networking brunch event and that we look forward to having Katrina come back for events in the future. We hope to continue hosting similar events all around Melbourne, so keep an eye out for a WIFT VIC event near you!
