MARCH EVENT POSTPONED

How to YouTube That: A Case Study Event with Ann Reardon

The WIFT VIC board would like to express our best wishes to members and supporters during this unique and challenging time. COVID-19 continues to impact daily life for us all, and the level of this impact is changing every day. As a result, we have reluctantly decided to postpone our March event to a later date, yet to be confirmed. At the end of the day, your health is our number one priority.

However, we are looking at alternative ways to bring events to our members, so stay tuned and we will update you in due course.

In the meantime, please take care of yourselves. Our thoughts go out to those who are sick, and our thanks go out to healthcare workers. Stay home (if you can), stay vigilant and stay healthy. We look forward to keeping in touch during this temporary phase.

*All tickets will be refunded*

Join WIFT Victoria for a fantastic case study and discussion with YouTube sensation, Ann Reardon, the creator and star of ‘How to Cook That’. We will be delving deep into the mechanisms of carving out a career on the ever-changing platform that is YouTube, deconstructing its algorithm and exploring how it still fits into the content distribution model.

Attracting artists, activists and entrepreneurs alike, creating online content as a career path remains an alluring and somewhat elusive pursuit for many. We look forward to unravelling some of the mystery with you! There will also be a chance to ask questions and network afterwards.

Ann Reardon is a food scientist, dietician and pastry chef whose wildly creative desserts are at the heart of the success of her YouTube channel, ‘How to Cook That’. Before this, she catered events for disadvantaged youths in Western Australia, teaching many of them how to cook in her own kitchen. In 2009, she launched the show as a website with video recipes, eventually uploading them to YouTube. Ann quickly garnered media attention, signing a contract with DECA and brand partnership with Breville.

By February 2014, the channel had 450,000 subscribers; and at the end of that year, it surpassed 1,000,000. ‘How to Cook That’ currently has over 4 million subscribers. Ann was recently voted the world’s best online chef in the US Taste Awards, and designed the Surprise Cakes app, which topped the food and drink app charts in 25 countries. Over the past 12 months, she has publicly taken Facebook and YouTube to task over their promotion of cheap content farms.
