WIFT VIC at CrewCon 2024!

By September 17, 2024News

Earlier this month, WIFT VIC  partnered with CrewHQ for the second annual CrewCon. Established by CrewHQ founder and Emmy award-winning producer Kirsty Stark, CrewCon is Australia’s premier conference for freelance film and TV crews, designed to cater to all levels of experience, from newcomers to established professionals.

With assistance from volunteers on the ground, WIFT VIC led the Melbourne opening night at RMIT University. Our partnerships manager Jessica Hutchinson and Student Ambassador Jessica Budin, joined crew members, creatives and RMIT students for CrewCon’s State of the Industry panel. From insights into mental health care and protections to the ethical debates around AI, the panel was an engaging teaser into the forums and masterclasses to come. Following a raffle draw prize gifting free WIFT VIC memberships, our post-livestream drinks saw lively discussions and keen networking from all our attendees!

The second day of CrewCon saw WIFT VIC facilitating an online Diversifying Crews forum, filled with crew from all different backgrounds, roles and areas of the industry. While the panelists and attendees shared their experiences, and what works for us as screen practitioners, it was the way everyone came together to create solutions that felt incredibly powerful.

Our special thanks to RMIT University, our fellow WIFT partners and Kirsty Stark for an optimistic, successful CrewCon. The future of our industry is bright!
